County Line Raceway Event Postponed in Wake of NC Governor’s Order

Elm City, North Carolina (Monday, March 16, 2020) – Officials with the County Line Raceway and the ULTIMATE Super Late Model Series have been forced to cancel their $4000 to win event scheduled for Saturday, March 21st in the wake of an executive order from North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper. Cooper’s order effectively bans any gatherings of greater than 100 people in response to concerns over the spread of the COVID-19 Virus. Officials are taking a wait and see approach before announcing a make-up date for the event.

“This is not something that we really had a choice in. I was aware that state officials arrived at Hickory Speedway and ordered an immediate shut down in the midst of an event on Saturday evening after the order was given that afternoon. So, I expected that we would need to postpone. However, Brenda (Holcombe - CLR Co-promoter) wanted to investigate the extent of the order further before making that decision. It is unfortunate but we will work with them to get the event rescheduled when return to some amount of normalcy in the area.” said ULTIMATE Series Director Kelley Carlton.

“We certainly want to be responsible and protect all of our fans, racers and staff. However, we wanted some clarification of how our business differs from that of shopping malls and the larger variety chain stores. We spent time on the phone both with Wilson County Officials as well as with the North Carolina Governor’s Office and the North Carolina Office of Health and Human Services. And at the end of the day there is just no way around us postponing the weekend. This is very difficult as a small business owner.” Holcombe commented.
